Chopping Board Care

Caring For Your Wooden Chopping Board

Thanks for purchasing one of our handcrafted wooden chopping boards! To ensure your board stays in the best condition and provides years of use, please follow these simple care guidelines.

About Your Chopping Board

Each of our chopping boards is finished with OSMO TopOil. This is a high-quality, food-safe, and durable finish designed specifically for kitchen surfaces. It's resistant to common stains and helps protect the wood.

Care Instructions

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down your board with a damp cloth. For a more thorough clean, use warm water and a mild dish soap. Do not soak or submerge your board in water, and avoid putting it in the dishwasher, as this can cause the wood to warp, crack, or split.

  • Drying: Always dry your chopping board immediately after washing. Stand it on its edge or use a dish rack to allow air to circulate evenly around all surfaces as it dries. This prevents moisture from being trapped, which can lead to warping or mildew.

  • Stains & Odors: For stubborn stains or odors (like garlic or onion), you can rub the area with half a lemon and a sprinkle of coarse salt, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

  • Heat: Avoid placing very hot pots or pans directly onto the board, as extreme heat can damage the wood and its finish.

  • Re-oiling: Over time, with frequent use and washing, the oil finish will wear down. We recommend re-oiling your board every few months, or when the wood starts to look dry and dull. Simply apply a thin coat of OSMO TopOil (or a food-grade mineral oil) following the product's instructions, allow it to soak in, then wipe off any excess. This will keep your board protected and looking great.
